Car blowing blue Smoke?

My car was blowing blue smoke after long idling at lights etc. I got my valve seals replaced about 3-4 weeks ago, since it has reduced incredibly (used to do it several times a day), but every now and then (maybe once or twice a week) it will still do it at long idling. Is this residue? It's a Hyundai Excel with 160'000 kms on it and it drives really well.

Update:

Don't know if this helps but The oil level has not lowered in months? And it is only after a long idle and a massive rev, never constant... I just find it hard (or sad) to believe its on its way out when It drives so beautifully!

it could still be some left over oil burning off ,but i doubt it,it may actually be using oil in the engine ,more than it should, keep an eye on the oil level and see if drops very much if it does there's other problems with the engine ,it may actually be starting to use oil and that's not a good sign,if its ever been ran hot before that too can cause it to smoke like that, all you can do for now is keep an eye on it and see if it clears up,good luck with it.

If it's only blue at startup or during hard rev ups, then it's your valve seals. If it blows blue continually, then it is your piston rings.

Considering that it's a Hyundai, you got your money's worth already, and with the steel block & aluminum head, it is not worth rebuilding.

Alternately, you may have two other issues: 1) if it's actually black smoke then you have a fuel mixture issue and you are burning rich. 2) if it's white, then it's coolant.

All these smokes smell very different. Take a sniff, ha ha.

Blue smoke is oil burnoff. chances are your piston rings are a little worn as well. But that is a expensive fix since you have to tear down the engine. At idle there is not as much cylinder pressure and a little oil leaks in. Either that or the valve problem is not completely fixed.

something liquids are reaching ur reaching ur exhaust, coolant or something idling for long periods of time is bad for ur pocket and the atmosphere and ur car.

u get less miles per gallon if ur car doesnt move while being on. ur polluting for no reason and a car should be able to drive as soon as it turns on and warms up as u drive idle for no more than a minute or so. u can look up these facts any where but it will help overall to not idle at such for so long.

as for the smoke some sort of liquid has to be reaching ur exhaust have it checked out

I would be looking at oil rings on the piston. Sounds like they may have collapsed. My sister Toyota did the same thing and we replaced valve seals and it didn't fix it I then took it a part and found the oil rings on the pistons collapsed. The other thing it might be is valve guide in the cylinder head.

  • Start saving your money for another car. Drive the one you have now for as long as you can..and take it easy. And check your oil from time to time and you'll will learn when to add oil.

Looks like you have oil consumption. With the high mileage, an overhaul is in your future.

I would add some chemical oil thickener to add viscosity to the oil and trade the car.
