squeaking noise from under the hood?

my car is a 2001 ford taurus with 70,000 miles. when I start my car I get this noise from under the hood. The best way to describe it is a squeak that gets faster when i hit the gas. Does anyone know what it could be? I thought it was the belt but it's not.

    could be your fan belt

It sounds like it's a belt. If it's not a belt, it might be the bearing on a pully that the belt rides on. Like your waterpump for instance has a pully, run by the belt. If the bearing is getting bad it will start squeeking.

It naturally sounds worse when you gas up, because the rotations of the engine parts is increasing rapidly.

How can you tell it's not the belt? There's no way to look at while it's running and tell if it's slipping or not. Anyway, if it's not the belt, it could be any moving part in the engine that needs oiling or replacement, such as a bearing, as others have suggested. Good Luck.

Your alternator bearing is going out if it isn't a belt.

Sometimes the idler pulley on your belt tensioner-it's also called the belt tensioner pulley-starts squealing. It has a bearing in it too, but this doesn't happen as often as the alternator bearing.

    Good luck

If the bearing in your water pump goes out the engine will spew coolant everywhere and overheat. Check the Alternator bearing and the tensioner pulley bearing

Does it go away after a while? It cold be your belt warming up. If it's always there you should get your alternaor looked at. And fast.

perhaps its the auxiliary drive belt. The cam drive belt should be ok for a few more miles
