Also could you tell me if it matters what type of computer it is and what will happen if my computer has lower than the requirements for a game. Will pick a best answer.

Yes, some computers do not have a slot for a video card, others will only work with AGP, PCI-E, etc.

First, download, install and run CPU-Z:

    http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

In the Window that appears, go into the Mainboard tab. In Graphic Interface, you should be able to tell what kind of a video card you are using currently (PCI, AGP, PCI-E, etc.).

If you don't see this information in the Mainboard tab, you should see the model of motherboard you have. Go to the website of the manufacturer and find out what kind of graphic interface it has (it will likely be AGP or PCI-E).

Once you know this, purchase a compatible video card, turn off your computer, open your case.

Remove the old card and put in the new card. This can be done with most phillips head screwdrivers. Turn on your computer and see if everything is working.

After the card is installed you'll need to install the latest drivers for it. You should be able to get them from ATI or Nvidia's website, depending on what type of card you purchased.

One, if its a laptop, go to someone who knows, this can get complicated for someone who has no idea. A desktop is ALOT easier to manage and learn.

Well its usually pretty simple, but you're going to need to open your computer, if you haven't before either find someone who has tinkered with them, pay a profesional to do it, or have another computer handy to look up on the fly (I pretty much trained myself to do everything I know with this method).

First open it up, look inside and see if you're dealing with PCI (white slot), AGP (brown/tan slot), or PCI-express (white with a little tiny white next to it) see pics on source website. Now when you figure out what you need go and get a card.

From here its really as simple as removing the back plate, little cover when theres nothing there, may not exist. Then put the card in, plug your monitor into the new port, and install the driver CD that should come with the card, and you should be in business.

Unplug your cpu using the cord. Then unscrew the two locks on your video cable to remove it from your video card. Then take out the screw that is holding the card in place at the rear of your machine after taking of the side of your tower.

You need to know what slot your cpu has .[agp, pci,or pci express]

You also need to know if your motherboard will support the cards voltage. Not all cards are the same voltage.

If you know the card will work with your system dont forget to check to see if your video card has a sliding lock at the far end.

Sometimes a card can break if this is not checked first.

first of all you need to check what type of graphics card you need.

    pci = very old

AGP = old but still used (i have one)

    PCI-E - latest.

finding out which of those you need just means looking at your mother board. after that its deciding what you want from the card. thats the hard bit. installing is easy enough . but if u dont know the way inside your computer get a friend to do it for you. post your mother board and i will tell you some good cards. also how much do you want to spend???

First find out what type of interface which your motherboard able to support, i.e. PCI, PCI Express, AGP. They use different type of slots, it can not be inter-change. What opearting system your computer is running and how much disk space and RAM your computer has? What is your microprossor? How much do you want to spend. You should at minmal with 32MB video, the more RAM you have the faster your screen can refresh. Of course, can your processor and system BIOs able to handle that. The range from $25-$499.

Read the directions. If you can't read or understand the directions, then take it to someone who can and pay them to do it for you. My wife & I wanted to upgrade our graphics cards and I'm clueless about such things, so I took our two computers to Best Buy for the upgrades. They did a great job, I gladly paid them for their efforts, and my wife & I are both happy with the results.

First, if you don't have experience with computer hardware you shouldn't do anything other than take it to someone who does. Call some friends or GO TO A LOCAL COLLEGE AND ASK FOR THE I T DEPARTMENT. build on it
