How do i tell MS Word to never open an HTML file ever again?

I find that the best way to get rid of html and all other crap that word embeds that we don't want in it, is as follows:

1. Open a copy of Notepad

2. In Word, do a CTRL-A to select All.

3. In Word, do a CTRL-C to copy.

4. In Notepad do a CTRL-V to paste.

5. In Notepad do a CTRL-A to select all

6. in Notepad do a CTRL-C to copy.

7. Open a new Word Document

8. In the new Word document, do a CTRL-V to paste.

9. Close the first Word document

10. Do a save on the new word document.

Sorry, but I don't know a better way to do exactly what you just asked, but this gets rid of the ALL of the crap, formatting and images, but I do spend a lot of time reformatting afterwards.

Your question was about html in word so I responded that way, Irregardless, copying and pasting to notepad and back to word, will remove ALL html from any text. This is because notepad is a text only editor.

To tell WINDOWs that you want to open HTML files in another editor, right click on an html file,and select open with, then select choose programs, and click the box that says always open this type of file with this editor.

Looks like you have set MS Word as your HTML Editor.

To fix this, try:

Open Internet Explorer. Click Tools in the menu bar.

Select Internet options from the drop-down list.

A new widown will open. Click the Programs tab.

In the HTMl Editor list select a program other than MS Word.

I would suggest Note Pad.

Or you could dwnload Text Pad from www.textpad.com. This is very handy for edting HTML files.

Or install MS Frontpage or Adobe Dreamweaver and go through the process above and select one of these.

You can hold shift key pressed and right click on the file to get the 'open with option' (remember 'open with' is different from open or edit) in the context menu.

You can choose a program from the list of softwares installed in your system (install textpad or editplus or frontpage or any other HTML editors you need) and if it doesnt appear in the list use the browse option and lookup for the .exe file (like notpad.exe,editplus.exe).

You also find a checkbox in the dialog box to check on if you wish to open the file always using the selected software.

Robin I need more info, what type of file extension are you right clicking on?

are you clicking on an email? because that MS Word is set in Outlook, set outlook to use a different editor.

are you clicking in an embedded link in MS Word itself and word spaces it out? You can stop that by ticking an instruction in msword - tools - options - compatability tab

i am not sure what you mean so may be off the mark here

Ok, open a folder - and go to tools>folder options. In the new dialouge box, you can change "File Type" options, and set certain programs to defaultly open types of file. Scroll down to HTML and set the default program to something other than Word. Hope this helps :)
