Jesus, his brothers and santa?

My friend told me that Jesus had 2 brothers (younger than him) and that the legend of santa comes from one of his brothers Nicholas, who liked to give away presents.

Was she winding me up?

You have been partially wound up.

Santa Claus is based on Saint Nicholas of Myra who was 4th century AD - about 4 hundred years after the death of JC.

It is reputed that James the Just was a brother or cousin of Jesus. If Jesus had other siblings I don't think it is recorded.

Has anyone even bothered to read scripture??

Catholic guy- your church has been lying to you for centuries! remeber your "church" didn't even allow for lay people to read scripture. It is stated in the bible that Mary did have children AFTER Jesus. We have to remember that she was married and that once she had Jesus, she was no longer a virgin.

As for the santa part, this commercial character is based on the bishop of myrna, a "saint" from the 3rd century.

Have fun and read a little, that way you can structure intelligent questions.

To: Catholic Crusader: "Jesus had no brothers"

You mean like James? Paul said James was Jesus' brother in Galatians... I take the time to read your book; you could at least do the same!

    Jesus had no brothers.

Read this for a proper interpretation of the so-called brothers of Jesus:

And what legend are you talking about? There is no such legend. St. Nicholas of Myra (Also called NICHOLAS OF BARI). was a Bishop of Myra in Lycia; he died 6 December, 345 or 352. He is one of the most popular saints in the Greek as well as the Latin Church.

Some of the main points in his life are as follows: He was born at Parara, a city of Lycia in Asia Minor; in his youth he made a pilgrimage to Egypt and Palestine; shortly after his return he became Bishop of Myra; cast into prison during the persecution of Diocletian, he was released after the accession of Constantine, and was present at the Council of Nicaea. In 1087 Italian merchants stole his body at Myra, bringing it to Bari in Italy.
