Ubuntu is considered the most user friendly for switching from Windows.

Ubuntu came out to today with the latest Ubuntu.

You can still get Ubuntu Free CDs for the asking. No Gimmicks.

    Just Google Ubuntu Free CDs.

The free ones are available yet for the latest but you can them for Feisty Fawn. You are allowed 3 per individual.

Takes about 3 weeks for delivery stateside.

If you are planning to install Linux on a specific machine, use google to find out what other people have successfully installed on the same machine, and go with that distro.

www.google.com "yourmachine linux install" should get you that information. The website www.distrowatch.org lists distros by popularity. Your google search should come up with a listing of several distros that people have used. Compare that list to distrowatch and try to use one that is towards the top of the distrowatch list.

Try Ubuntu. It seems to be a great OS for beginning Linux users. Do a Google search for Ubuntu

There are two that I like: Debian and Kubuntu. Debian has thousands of support programs (applications and utilities). Kubuntu is an off-shoot of Debian and has become popular because it's a "plug and play" substitute for Windows. It just works without any flaws.

I personally like PCLinuxOS 2007 the best. It is good looking, runs smoothly, and is really easy to install and use. The link for more information is http://www.pclinuxos.com/ . If you want to download the iso for it, I would use this http://linuxtracker.org/torrents-details.php?id=41...
