Break Up the Yankees?

I am glad that Torre turned down the extension because he deserves better treatment than this so-called offer. I would have preferred that George, Hal or Hank (or whichever Steinbrenner is running the team these days) told Joe outright to take a hike. This fake low-ball contract offer that says "We don't have the balls to tell you not to come back" is disrespectful to a man that gave his heart and soul to the Yankees. We've also heard that if A-rod opts out that Brian Cashman will not even fool with him. Mariano Rivera has mentioned Torre's status as influencing his decision on returning. What will happen with Jorge Posada? Can the Yankees maintain the same level of success under Mattingly or Girardi (or even LaRussa) as they did Under Torre?

Opinions, please...

What the Yankees do this offseason will be extremely interesting to watch, and telling on the future direction of the franchise.

Remember the Sheffield trade last offseason - got a few nice young pitchers from the Tigers. That was all Brian Cashman. The Yankees have the type of money that if they can swallow some of their bad contracts, pick up some nice young talent, and end up with a team similar to what they had in the early Joe Torre era.

I don't think the average Yankee fan would take that though.

I really look for LaRussa to be hired, and for the Yankees to throw stupid money at some free agent during the offseason.

that's certainly ridiculous. The Yankees are going to win the AL East and Rivera isn't finished. he's 40 years previous, and nonetheless the best closer interior the pastime. i'm a Mets fan, yet a minimum of i'm sensible.
