My fiance and I are going to Italy for 9 days! How much money should we take?

It is true that it's probably the best to use the ATMs for getting euro as far as exchange rates and all? We are going to Rome, Florence, and Venice.

Update:

Did I mention it's our honeymoon?

Ok...I was there in July for a month and I go every year. First of all dont bring any US money with you...you are better off exchanging a couple of hundred dollars at the airport, just so when you land you have money for drinks, tips..etc. Use your credit card and ATM for everything. You will get a better rate.

    Important things to remember:

-Call your bank and CC company and let them know when and where your are travelling. Get numbers for them that are international and have 24hr service.

-Most ATM throughout Italy only allow you about 300 dollars a day...

-If you take aout 250 euro's its about $347.00 american dollars, its a big difference and the Euro went up since I was there. Europe is extremely expensive. I stayed with my aunts and uncles for part of my trip and still spent close to 6k...so its better to be prepared than not to be...

I am a shopper and I love Italian Fashion and so does the rest of the world, so prepare for that, you are gonna see things that arent even out in the states yet and you will want it, so have extra money for that.

    Buon Viaggio!!

Check with your credit cards, most have a conversion fee if you use your card. Can be expensive if you charge alot. Capital One has the cheapest conversion rate. (1%, I think) ATM is the way to go. We brought cash but we had to hunt to get a good rate. We wised up and used the ATM machine, they are all over. Better rate. Take enough euros out to cover a couple of days. If you are not on a tour, figure at least $100 a day per person. I think our dollar is worth 70 cents =a euro. If you buy jewelry in Florence, bargain, bargain. They will come down in price. Loved Italy. Good Luck, wishing you a very happy Honeymoon

yes the atms give u a the best exchange. Because the dollar is worth 40 % less then the euro, and things there are expensive you should plan at least 150 dollars each for each day. and thats going cheap!

wo wo wo...don ever and i mean ever go around w lots of cash, especially in Rome and NAPLES...u ll get robbed 4 sure...trust me, in Naples they r pros, n in Rome we have our Zingari (=gypsies in Italian)...if you've lived in Rome u can recognize a gypsy from miles away...they re smell like they just rolled outta **** w a 100 pigs (probably even worst), women r always carrying a baby on their shoulders and more importantly 4 u they have a 1000 tricks to rob a tourist...so watch out for your bags and wallets, especially if you are taking public buses as #64 or #40 to the basilica of St. Peter which is always and literary stack of people.

Good Luck and enjoy your honeymoon!!!
