Airedale Terriers?
Does anyone have this breed of dog as a pet (or has had experience with them)? What are their common traits, how do they behave, etc.?
I am interested in getting a dog soon, and I'm doing research to find out what breed is best for me. Also, I live in NYC in an apt. but I'm close to lots of parks, etc. I know terriers like to dig, but would this breed be fine in an apt?

I like to describe them as a terrier in BIG body. They can have an attitude so you have to be dominant in a loving way.
You will have to exercise daily!!! Maybe get him into a terrier club and work with them and activities

I'd say maybe stick to toy breeds or medium dogs. Careful about the breed though, Smaller dogs can be high strung sometimes. You'd probably want a dog with medium length hair.
An Airedale Terrier I think should do fine in an apartment. Try looking up Airedale Terrier on Wikipedia.com

Read this page on Airedale Terriers. This is a wonderful website, because it tells you information that a potential owner would want to know, instead of just basic ''breed standards'' like the AKC pages do.

"The Airedale Terrier is not recommended for apartment life. They are very active indoors and will do best with at least an average-sized yard."

I think Airedales as a breed are wonderful but you do have to remember they are terriers. Terriers can be stubborn and energetic, but they are full of life and can make you laugh non stop. They physically require plenty of exercise, grooming, more food than a smaller breed and, as with every dog, discipline. I don't think an Airedale is out of te question for you. You just need to know what you are getting in to and make the committment to make it work.
