Did you ever think Obama would stoop to playing the race card?

LOL...YES.

The Bush government is full of flunkies, cronies and incompetents who don't enforce the laws. Tanner is a civil rights division lawyer who takes the side of the people who want to throw up hoops for blacks to jump through before they can vote. This is contrary to the spirit of the law. No doubt, Obama has looked into Tanner's record, and the law in question. He's an expert in constitutional law and he wouldn't be making a frivolous claim. We will soon see who is playing the race card..

Keep in mind, there are many people who would never vote for Obama only based on his race. I've heard many of the regulars here on Y!A say that they fear what a black person in office would do. So it's not out of line for Obama to suspect racism.

Tanner sounds like the one who played the "race card" as you so sensitively put it. However, as astounding as this may sound, I have to agree with the sentiment behind Tanner's statement, if not his choice of words.
The average life expectancy for a white male in the US is 72 years of age. Female is 77.
The average life expectancy for a black male in the US is 67 years of age. Female is 72
Social Security payments begin at age 65, or 63 in some cases, meaning black folks who pay just as much of their income to it as white folks do, collect at least 5 less years of benefits, and it's shown in this linkhttp://www.efmoody.com/estate/lifeexpectancy.html (huge page , it's under the bold typed word; LONGEVITY)
they do tend to die off sooner, either due to poorer nutrition, lacks in medical care, whatever.
But yeah, when reporters asked Obama what he thought of Tanner's comments he said he thought he should step down for his insenstive comments in a public forum.
Those of us who are in YA regularly have seen HUNDREDS of questions about Obama, all playing the SAME "race card", "Is America ready for a black President?" "Is Obama black enough?" etc. For you to now consider such tactics to be "stooping" to some lower level is just more blind, Republican hypocracy, but thanks for trying.
Source(s): Maybe AFTER next year's elections, you and those of your "Klan" can enlist and put all that aggression to use in Iraq. Maybe then you will realize America ain't buying the fear and hate you're selling anymore. Americans reward RESULTS, not threats. You had your chance for 6 years and completely blew it. - How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.

From your article:
"Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama said Friday the head of the Justice Department's voting rights division [John Tanner] should be fired for saying voter ID laws hurt the elderly but aren't a problem for minorities because they often die before old age. "
What a stupid thing to say! Tanner should be fired for being a moron!

He's going to have to play something to get back into the running. Race, however, isn't going to do it for him. There's a lot more women in this country than black people. It seems to be the women's vote that is putting Senator Clinton over the top in the Democratic race.

How is that "playing the race card." I'm white and I find the statement made by the election official very offensive as well. What if the official had been black and made the comment about white men? If Rush L. called him on it would Rush be "playing the race card?"
Seriously, is this the best you can come up with?

This isn't lemonade for your side.

Yes. Those who complain the loudest are the worst racists: Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Charles Rangel.

He'll never have to. People who ask questions like this are essentially playing it for him.

Yes, he's a democrat isn't he? They're whole platform is about buying votes.
