can you wash your keyboard in the dishwasher?

This sounds a little strange to me, but the lady that helps me with cleaning said you could wash your keyboard in the dishwasher. Yikes. Really? Should I fire her or chuck my keyboard in the dishwasher? Thanks to all you techies in advance.

I'll try anything once. Go buy a new one first. Then throw the dirty one in the dishwasher (unplug it first he! he!) Let it dry for a long time around a month and then see if it still works.

I found a keyboard in a dryed up ditch. It must have blown out of the back of a pickup. It was buried right in there from the "a" to the "l" then I guess the mud dried around it. I chopped it out of the dried mud with an axe. Knocked most of the mud off with a hammer. Then scrubbed it with a floor brush while holding it under the water from the garden hose. Then I gave it to the wife and she washed it in the sink after the dishes. We let it dry for a long time. It worked perfectly for a long time. I think it was retired when we switched from 5 pin din to ps2

depends on the keyboard. This is not the first time i have heard this but it wold really depend on hte keyboard. i would wash an oldkeyboard with a PS/2 connector because i think it cold handle it. I have spilled soda on that type before and it worked once it dried off. (it was the basic no frills kind)

some tips would be if you do wash it

make sure it is completely dry, let it sit for like a week or 2 to be sure

    turn off your computer

    plug it in

    see what happens

i would not try a keyboard that was

    wireless

    usb

or had any kind of add on on it (card reader etc. etc.)

    good luck.

Believe it or not... you really can but there are caveats....

    1) If the heated water it uses is too hot, it may melt the "plastic" wire runs, keys or keyboard assembly.

    2) Do not use the "heated drying" feature. Again, this will possibly melt your plastic wire runs, keys or keyboard assembly.

    3) Make sure the keyboard is 150% COMPLETELY DRY before you even think about plugging it in. The only way to do this is to let it air dry for a day or two.

Now, assuming you've followed all this and nothing "accidentally" melted then the keyboard should actually still work once you plug it in.

Now all that said, would I do this? Heck no!!

Of course you can wash your keyboard in the dishwasher, just like you could wash yourself if you could fit... you could wash all sorts of random stuff in there, a tv, your whole computer, your ipod, your laptop, stereo, books... the list goes on... They'd come out cleaner but i wouldnt count on them doing quite the same job after there experience.

On a different note, you could wrap some fish up in aluminium foil and throw that in at the same time as the keyboard, take out your keyboard and put it in the bin and then unwrap the fish and eat your freshly steamed fish supper :)

I am a Tech student and my teacher for our Hardware class said that he has put keyboards in the bathtub before. If you make sure it is unplugged first of course.

Don’t put the cords in the tub. Wipe them off with a washcloth. Be sure that you let the keyboard dry all the way before you plug it back in.

Do not use a hair dryer on it to help it dry faster. The static it will cause will do damage.

that is merely instant on the outdoors. Do you sparkling all your electronics interior the dishwasher?! try a moist rag. Or, in case you want to circulate to extremes, merely purchase a sparkling keyboard each and every time one gets grimy.

Believe it or not, you can indeed wash your keyboard in the dishwasher.

However, it will no longer be a keyboard, just an expensive paper wieght.

The springs under the keys would rust. The paint would wear off the key caps. Don't do it. Take it outside and shake it to get out all the food and skin particles. Just wipe it down with a household cleaner.

Sure.....you "can" put it in there........theres really nothing stopping you from it.
