How to stop spam kind of email that seems to have your address....?
I get about 15-20 not so nice kind of email in my bulk every day. I always just delete them, and never open them. I really want them to go away, any suggestions? I am afraid to open them in case of a virus or something. The computer I use is also used for my husband's business stuff, so I really don't want to take any chances of messing things up. any real help would be greatly appreciated.

Once your email address is on a spammers list it is almost impossible to get off. Right now, your e-mail address (along with millions of others) is on a CD being sold from the back rooms of software shops from Bangladesh to Botswanna and from Norway to the Netherlands.
However there are several things that you can do to prevent even more spam.
1. Start by removing your e-mail address from your Yahoo profile,if it is on it. The spam-industry has programs that are continusously crawling the web looking for the "@" symbol which is a sure sign the the word before it and the domain name after it is an e-mail address!
2. Use a longer address. The spam industry uses programs that try sending e-mail to all known domain names. Example: a program might start trying to send out e-mails to everyone starting with aaaaa@INVALID.com and continue down to zzzzz@INVALID.com. Using a longer e-mail address will make this harder to do.
3. Never click the "Unsubscribe Link" in any spam e-mail. This will only confirm to the spammers that your e-mail address is indeed real and that you are reading their garbage. In fact, do not even open any e-mail from anybody you don't know or trust. Many spams are not only annoying but contain viruses of other malware. Just delete 'em without opening 'em!.
You can however click that "Unsubscribe Me" button from businesses that are well known and that you trust. Walmart... yes. Someone selling Viagra...no.
4. Open up a second e-mail account. Whenever, a website requires you to register using your e mail address, use this secondary address. There are many unscrupulous websites that will sell you address to others or bombard you with spam themselves.
5. Download a free copy of SiteAdvisor. SiteAdvisor will alert you when you search (Google, Yahoo, MSN, search only) of websites that are known to send out spam. This can help you avoid registering with any sites that are known to spam people.
Treat your e-mail address just like you would your telephone number or home address....only give it out to those that you absolutely trust!

Depending on what email client you are using there are different ways to stop SPAM.
If you are using Outlook Express, not much is offered. You can set up message rules, however the Spamers keep changing their address.
If you are using Firefox you can set up a rule that compares all incoming messages with your address book. If the incoming message sender is NOT in your address book you can have the message go to a specific folder or it can be automatically deleted. This is a problem if a new friend sends you an email and they are not in your address book.
There are Spam filters by the dozen but they sometimes delete valid email.
I had the same problem and this is how I stop it completely:
I changed my email address. I only gave out my email address to my work and friends and family.
I Never ever enter my email address on a web page when then want you to register. That is how the spamers get your address. If you need to register on a web page to get more info, use a second email address. Either Yahoo or Hotmail, they are free.

There is no perfect antispam tool, however you can try and minimize the amount of spam received by following these steps.
You shouldn't open unsolicted email from unknown sources. Often what happens is that when you open up spam, it sends back a trigger to the originating source indicating that a valid email address has been found thus subjecting you to even more spam down the road. Even using the preview pane in email products sends web beacons back to spammers.( http://helpdesk.gwu.edu/mailfilter/spam.html )
Here are a few steps you can take to try and avoid spam.
1. Don't open unsolicited Spam. Often what happens is that when you open up spam, it sends back a trigger to the originating source indicating that a valid email address has been found thus subjecting you to even more spam down the road.
2. Don't use the Preview Pane for the same reasons as #1
3. Set you email options to accept mail from only people in your address book or safe lists.
4. Set some filters to automatically route spam to certain folders for easy deletion later.
5. Use a throwaway account for any online registrations you need such as news sites and contests, etc. Often these email addresses are sold to other places, particularly advertising firms. If the throwaway account gets over run, you can simply delete it and create another.
6. Use the BCC when composing emails and encourage your friends to do the same. What this does is protects mailing lists from email harvesters.
7. You can consider using a third party application such as SpamFighter (free version can only be used for 1 account and it is for Outlook and Outlook Express only) http://www.spamfighter.com/ . Mailwasher is also a good antispam tool. http://www.mailwasher.net/
8. Never reply to any spam email that you happen to open and receive for the same reason as #1 above.

What mail handler are you using?? Outlook has a builtin spam filter and Outlook Express has filters that can be set up to remove the most obnoxious stuff by keywords.
Basically, you can't because there are people out there who spend all their time trying to punch the junk through. If your husband does not have a really good virus, etc., scanner (Netscape or MacAfee at a minimum) nobody should be getting e-mail or looking at the web on that machine.

A good but tedious way to do this is to go your mail options. There should be a section for spam. You don't need to enter the whole email address just the part after the "@" symbol. It should block all email from that sender. If you do this from each group that sends you email you will notice a great decress of junk mail.

It depends on the e-mail program you use.
Outlook lets you flag a message as "junk" and you will never get it from that sender again - IF they use they same address every time.
If you really examine the header of the e-mails you can glean an IP address which you can block at the firewall level.

I get tons of spam emails!!!!
From my advice, do not sign up for any newsletters, do not sign up on sites. You know why? Because they are liars, the thing is they say they keep your email private. But really, they send your email out to all spam emailers. So I recomend not signing up on sites.Otherize if you didn't, Try some other answers here.
