Early pregnancy and medication (following dental work)?

My fiancee and I had unprotected sex last week, and I had my wisdom teeth removed 3 days ago. Without even thinking about the possibility I could be pregnant, I was taking antibiotics for infection and ibuprofen for pain.

If I am pregnant will taking medication this early on in pregnancy have any adverse effects?

I have stopped taking the medication at least temporarily, the dentist told me that the procedure went really well and I didn't really need antibiotics, so I shouldn't have an infection.

If its pennicillan its fine, I took that twice. But for pain most doctors will tell you only to take tylonal. Dont worry about what you did, as long as you know now and are careful. Honestly, how many women do things they shouldnt before they found out they were pregnant. I'll be honset, before I knew I was preggo, I had some drinks and I smoked. I had no clue that I was. I freaked and asked the doctor, he said there is nothing to worry about, as long as you dont do it anymore.

It's wayyy to early for you to have done any damage. Going by what you said, sex last week, surgery 3 days ago means that if you are pregnant you are probably only what.. 3 or 4 days pregnant. Untill your sure stop taking anything but I'd bet money that nothing bad has happened. It's not like you have sex and are an hour later pregnant and if it did happen that way the egg has to have time to implant. It's just not likely you've done any harm.

It shouldn't be to bad if you have now stopped taking the medication. As for the pain killers take the ones that have Codeine & Paracetamol in it. They are safe with pregnancy. If you are not sure check with your chemist. They will tell you if its safe or check the net they can fill you in on alot about drugs and pregnancy. I needed to take medication for allergies but during pregnancy I couldn't so had to find a safer method to treat. Found this out via the net but had the chemist confirm and the information was correct. I couldn't take them. Good luck and if you are wanting this baby I hope it all goes well.

Ok, if you need a root canal that is not something that can wait really and should be done immediatly. You would need to discuss with your obgyn and dentist about the situation, they will find the safest drugs for you under the circumstances and the best way to get the root canal done if needed. Tylenol is not going to help you if you have aganozing tooth pain that requires a root canal. Discuss this with your obgyn, they do have drugs that they can give you in such cases, that even though are not as mild as tylenol will still help you with the least harm.

My doctor actually told me that you can take IBprofrin up to 17 weeks. I always thought it was bad for the baby but apparently not.

I wouldn't worry too much about what you have done in the past few weeks. If you are pregnant it's too early to worry. Just stop now and that way you know.

If you do find out you are pregnant then just let your Dr know what you were taking. Ibuprofen is NOT good for the baby. It can cause heart defects in rare cases and miscarriages in VERY rare cases. These are very rare circumstances though. Dr's just like to be careful. If you need, take Tylenol.

Think about all the things that women did before they knew they were pregnant and that their babies came out fine.

I would stop the antibiotics... the only person who can truly tell you what is right for YOU is your own doctor, not us on Yahoo! answers. We're not authorized to give you that sorta advice, even the doctors here. Good luck, talk to a doctor asap.

no, youre probably not pregnan but if so antibiotics are better for you than they are worse. and ibuprofen isnt good, take tylenol. thing is, you are most likely in the clear, youll be fine and so will your kid.
