Will I EVER manage to set up a Direct debit with BT?
Ref my earlier question on this subject. It is now 3 MONTHS since I tried to set up a direct debit & despite several emails, letters and phone calls the idiots that BT are employing seem to be incapable of carrying out a simple task. does anyone know a contact number for the managing director of BT, if so could you please let me know as I intend to go to the engine driver & not the rag.thanks in anticipation of any help you can give.
Thank you to all who submitted sensible answers. I have exhausted the freephone options, in spite of hanging on the line for anything up to 1 hour, but thank you to the reader that gave me the Durham address, I will try the snail mail trail to them. Thank you all once again.

Achieving everything with BT must go down as a great success on your part, mind you I think only giving them three months indicates you are being a little intolerant. You obviously do not understand the complexities of this industry, training staff to cause the maximum number of problems takes a long time. What you should do is ring Delhi (their help line) here you get maximum confusion and even more, you will not be able to understand a word ot it Regarding going to the engine driver, once again I think you are expecting rather a lot, because if one of them could drive an engine they would not work for BT. If you could be satisfied with the rag, you will probably find him in the West Indies, try their best Hotel. I doubt if you will get through on the phone.

I set up a direct debit with B.T. or rather I rang them up and gave them my Bank details for a monthly D.D. I think it took them 3 months before they actually did as I asked take the money on the specified date of the month, not before not after. Even now they are taking £12 a month for a £11.25 bill but I have come to recognise that is best to let sleeping dogs lie, ring up your local Indian call centre and get them to recheck your details at least it is a free call.

Always take details of names and departments when phoning and when you write quote them. Try printing it in red - as they would if you owed them money! They may just take more notice. If you think you have a problem with BT - try Orange internet service - they are almost driving us to suicide!!!!!

Why don't you go to your local newspaper? They like to have stories like this, also contact BBC's Watchdog programme there may be others like you. Both these measures normally produce results. Try to have all the details available, dates you called, copies of e-mails, faxes etc. it makes it more credible for the newspaper.

why dont you try the Steven Rodes consumer programme on three counties radio,he's good at sorting these things out and fast, plus he has access to the big boys, you will only end up talking to someone in India, rather than someone local

This could be something to do with them charging #4.50 on your phone bill if you DONT pay by direct debit. If it takes them that long on any customer wanting to set up, it is obviously to their gain and unfortunately your loss. Sickening.
