Writing a sci-fi story?

I'm writing a sci-fi story (potentially a novel) and need some help coming up with callsigns for the pilots. I have a few I'm planning on using, but they're kinda cliche: Viper, Angel, Fortune, Hawk, and Maniac.

Something different from normal would be good, and nothing vulgar, please.

Update:

Exactly on the definition of callsigns, and that's kind of where I was going with Maniac. (Crazy enough to pull anything.)

Callsigns... like... "Paging Viper, this is Angel, over..." Like that? Oh! What fun you could have with those! You know what would be great? If you came up with inside jokes inside the story. The pilot's callsigns should match their personality. I LOVE The Matrix's callsigns for this reason. Mouse was the short one. Trinity sounds humble but dangerous. And Morpheus sounds like he's the MAN.

Try and come up with unique personalities to match the names. If one person is obsessed with Greek literature, you could name them Hercules. If another pilot is paranoid, you can call him Skitz. If another is a newlywed, you can call him Mrs. Things like that.

Cliche is just getting boring (... yeah, I know, that's redundant). But if you do cliche matching the character's personalities, they become fresh and new.
