Has anyone taken any of the tricyclics? And have they helped?
I'm now in my 40s and have been depressed since I was in junior high. The first antidepressant I tried, Prozac, worked great for 5 years. But, then it stopped working. I've gone back and tried it at other times but it hasn't worked. None of the other SSRIs have worked. My doctor is considering putting me on a tricyclic. Has anyone who wasn't helped by the SSRIs actually helped by a tricyclic? If so, which one?

about 1200mg or ! teaspoon a day is better than Prozac at working with the serotonin and nephineferan problem. I take this along with my Prozac. it really makes the difference .
But it takes more than a month to start working.
I have suffered from depression for 20 years and this is the best thing I have found. it has also worked for other friends who use it.

Wow, that takes me back! When I was first diagnosed with depression, I was put on Anafranil (a tricyclic). It wasn't even available in the U.S. I had to send away to Canada for it! It did nothing for me and I wound up in the hospital (psychiatric). Neither of them did ANYTHING for me!
I've been on SSRI's (more than I can count!) I've been on Prozac (which helped for a little while). I am currently on Cymbalta. I am not as depressed as I had been, but I think that that is due to the fact that I've moved out of my parents' house and made some new friends.
Sometimes I feel as if the psychiatrists just prescribe any antidepressant of which they know to conduct their own research (but that's just MHO).
