combustion of wood & clean? smoke exhaust.?

is it possible to have clean looking smoke & have high concentration of CO [carbon monoxide] in wood stove exhaust? concerned about a downdraft stove.

Update:

meant to say= if stove is working fine & drafting. looking for theoretical opinion. CO analysis of smoke would be great. i dont have analyzer or know testing procedure.

Update 2:

mentioned stove is a downdraft stove by design.

    its colorless and deadly hook up a co2 detector in the room test the draw with a news paper on fire by the flue if it doesnt draw dont use the stove till you clean the pipe or the chimney birds often block the pipe or the tile in the chimney with nesting materials
