Can't clear history in IE7 anymore! What gives? Grrrr.... Bad Microsoft...?

Another popular issue with Microsofts IE7 Browser.

I would rather use Firefox but I'm a Realtor in New Jersey and many of the mls' require it. (Bad MLS' grow up and use cross browser friendly technology)

Windows cannot access the specified device,path or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access the item."

I'm logged in as administrator so thats not the issue and shouldn't be anyway.

IE7 will not clear the history, cookies, cache and so on anymore when you go to Tools > Internet Options > Delete Browser history.

Think this may have something to do with windows auto upates yet again! Seems every time I have a problem with my pc its because of a messed up patch microsoft sends out to install automatically.

Any suggestions from anyone how to fix these issues would be appreciated.

Update:

These are alternatives to a fix, not a solution to the problem! I don't need more software to purchase and instal.

I don't know if ownership of the windows folder was the solution either, I tried that once before and it didn't help. I went to the windows update site, installed all the latest patches and reinstalled IE7 over itself and rebooted a few times and it seems to work again. Go figure!!!

    I personally don't like auto updates for anything, however not a good idea for people who don't consistently run updates.

    You can try this to see if it fixes the admin issue

    Right click on the windows folder.

    Go to properties.

    Go to security

    Go to advanced

    Click on your username

    Check take ownership

    Hit OK, if asked say all files and subfolders.

    If you can't find the security tab option you need to turn off simple file sharing:

    Open my computer > tools > Folder Options > View tab > scroll to the bottom and untick use simple file sharing

    You can also try a third party program that will remove all internet traces
