Unfortunately bands like cute is what we aim for, doesnt fall under anytype of punk.
AFIs originated from a punk scene. and used to play punk rock during their early years.
Cute is what we aim for is just a pop rock house who claim to have "influence" from punk. In their music you only see slight influence from punk like distorted guitar and w.e.
No true "punks" ive heard of , take any influence from bands like Cute is what we aim for or stuff like that. The only people i know who like them are EMOS or Scene Kids..

Generally the rhythm (rapid, quite often), downstroked guitar (does not relatively observe for the whole lot), perhaps a vibrant guitar sound, and roots that're extra in rock n roll than the extra..theatric? (consider Queen, Yes, stuff like that) constituents of Rock. Lyrically, plenty of punk appears to be approximately uprising in opposition to something, however this does not maintain actual for the whole lot. I imply, the Ramones were not relatively situated round rebellious lyrics, however they are a seminal punk band. Oh, and the vocals quite often are not relatively making a song, in order that separates it from every other song It's additionally (on the whole) less complicated sounding than Metal, quicker/with a better vigor stage than Hard Rock (usually..), quite often does not contain rapping like Rap-Rock.. Less creation, too, regularly. Or no less than it is not made as seen. It additionally has a tendency closer to a repetitive riff and sensible refrain. Er..to be sincere, usually it is elaborate to mention. And of direction there are plenty of bands which soundwise could now not be traditional punk, however which had any such giant influence at the style that they get thrown in there. Return of the Jackyl, that is why the qualifier "on the whole" is there. And how do you give an explanation for non-punk bands that experience the equal angle?

Punk rock is a subgenre of rock that has its roots in the original rockers (Chuck Berry, Bo Diddly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis) in that it's a simplified version of rock 'n' roll based on simple riffs and minimalism with few solos or other such nonsense. Then in the early mid sixties punk started to show through in the garage rock of the era (Electric Prunes, Sonics, Seeds, 13th Floor Elevators, Kinks, Who etc. etc.) in attitude towards music (simple good time "Let's make some loud noises!" music). The Velvet Underground in the late 60's further refined the art with their simple avant garde and confrontational music that almost any respectaable punk would own in the 70's. But the true starting point of punk rock (in my humble opinion) came with the all out raw power attack of the 1969 self titled debut album of Ann Arbor band The Stooges. It was raw and primal to the point that it was avant garde in it's own way, and at least "No Fun" would become a punk staple. Around this time more proto-punk was coming out such as the MC5, Hawkwind, the Modern Lovers, the Flamin' Groovies, the Pink Fairies, and a few years on glam acts such as the Sweet, Slade, T.Rex, and the New York Dolls. With these influences and a mutual hatred for overblown progressive acts with increasingly longer and ridiculous guitar solos (and other BS) the first wave of what would become started forming with Television, Patti Smith, the Dictators, and the Saints, followed closely by the Ramones, Sex Pistols, Blondie, and the Heartbreakers (lead by ex-New York Doll Johnny Thunders) which would in turn inspire hundreds of new bands (mostly in the U.K.) sharing common influence and preferences which became the '77 punk explosion. Far too many bands came out in that period to name but some of the more well known bands were the aforementioned Ramones and Sex Pistols, the Clash, Blondie, Elvis Costello, the Damned, the Buzzcocks, the Dead Boys, and Devo.
Since the original wave there have been countless new punk bands, complete with it's own subgenres (post-punk, hardcore, garage punk, "alternative", grunge) and an enormous effect on other genres that many don't like to admit, especially so called "classic" rock. Overall though, punk was just a re-energizing of rock 'n' roll that brought it back to it's youthful confrontational roots and prised at least some of its pride out of the cold soulless hands of the old men (prog rockers and soft rockers) and huge egos with their huge record deals that had claimed it. And even bands not claiming to be punk today can easily be shown to have influence from the era, especially just about any modern band that associates itself with rock.
Quite simply the most exciting genre to ever grace speakers across the world.

Well first off, AFI used to be punk. And second, punk is NOT crap. It is songs sung about rebellion. And lastly, the so called "trend" you refer to is the fans and people who believe in the lyrics that the bands write.
