What is the star believed to have the largest diameter?
The only hint I was given is that it's 1,000X our sun

The largest KNOWN star is apparently VY Canis Majoris, Apparently it's about 2000x our sun. There are other stars of similar estimated diameter though, and the errors mean that they could be larger. See the source article listed below.
Also, i guess that. given that we can't resolve stars in distant galaxies (and they are seen in the past anyway), and the universe may well be infinite, it is unlikely to be the largest of all.

The largest diameter star we know of right now is VY Canis Majoris, at between 1800 and 2200 times the diameter of the sun.
For those that think it's Betelgeuse, that red giant is only number 11 in diameter (as far as we know).
There are 6 stars with diameters more than 1000 times the sun.
