statistics word problem?
Word Problem: Based on the genotypes of parents, offspring are expected to have genotypes distributed in such a way that 25% have genotypes denoted by AA, 50% have genotypes denoted by Aa and 25% have genotypes denoted by aa. When 145 offspring are obtained, it is found that 20 of them have AA genotypes, 90 have Aa genotypes & 35 have aa genotypes. Test the claim that the observed genotype offspring frequencies fit the expected distribution of 25% for AA, 50% for Aa & 25% for aa.

Use the chi square test. You get
x^2 = (20-36.25)^2 / 36.25 + (90-72.5)^2 / 72.5 + (35-36.25)^2 / 36.25
= 7.28 + 4.22 + 0.04
= 11.54
Now look this value up under 2 degrees of freedom on chi square distribution table, and see that it is greater than the chi square value for P=0.99, and so we reject the 25-50-25 hypothesis.
