I am assuming that you are in the UK, and I would hazard a guess that you are either in Northern England, os Scotland.
We are in East Anglia and it is set at 20degrees, but will switch off at 10pm. We don't like a hot bedroom.(Prefer to snuggle)

I'm going to assume that you know enough to have set the thermostat switch to "heat", yet you still get cold air. There are 2 possibilities, and I hope the first one is correct, although pretty unusual. The thermostat could be set up to act in reverse. I have actually seen this before. A cold setting, such as 65 will cause the unit to produce heat. What would be happening in this situation is that you are telling the system that the house is cold, and needs heat. If this is true, then turning the dial to a warmer temperature during the warmer months would be saying to the system that the house is hot and needs to be cooled. It is a rare situation, but it is possible. The other possibility is that either the compressor has died, which is expensive, or the switching valve, or reversing valve is bad, and that is also an expensive fix. I truly hope that your situation is just a reverse acting thermostat. I would like to know the outcome of your situation.

Heat? We still have our air conditioning running here in Georgia! The high today is 90, and we keep our air set at 78.
The leaves are TRYING to turn, but it sure doesn't feel like Fall yet!
