When you think?

Do you tend to think of the same concepts over and over with new twists and slants or do you occasionally have a new thought totally unconnected to anything you've thought before? How often does the average person have an original thought?

On that of concepts precisely re-visited, this may indeed be indications of imbalance but on the other hand, may well be indication of perfect health so that we can improve and re-tool first within before manifesting to the outlying world.

Thoughts hashed and processed repeatedly usually can bear principles needing learned then mastered, yet this without one having to undergo the strike and strains to the physical shell, and bearing a faulty product to the world in crystalline form too soon.

Once appraised of a principle, little purpose is there in enduring four and forty applications of it; thus having a capacity to derive Principle is, say, a by-pass mechanism, at once an advanced placement. By this one can create, maintain, and destroy a given ' product ' in the head first before he or she dares allow it to go into, say, manufacture or expression, which error may cause certain harm to both the living and non-living; and whose energy if impressed repeatedly with an unbalanced intent, can cause certain diseases.

We need only contemplate a certain measure of turns of thought on the same theme or activate somewhat its thesis before we divine a pattern that will show somehow therein. With that in hand, or mind, we have thus practiced and then resolved to both art and science: that is, just one principle underlies millions of permutations or an infinitum of same, out of which may bear forth a new and good wrinkle indeed, and a freshest of thought.

As to an original thought -- truly original -- guarantee yourself that that originality is seeded in a medium well above the compass of thought, with roots already somewhere in the world of worlds for your edification, but this does not occur without having fulfilled of certain criteria and preparations beforehand -- you will have earned that original thought indeed, especially so if the intent was to succeed at certain ends neutrally for others and other worlds; else a hitherto fine structure is now rent that can cause certain harm, which result in turn does require one to ' slow down ' and carry again through a now familiar process and pattern, through sets of repeated Cycles, in which case one is consigned to a different ' time track ' -- this, to gain understanding of the principle and re-trace the missteps till such time as one has learned the apt principle to 'that' circumstance or questions or ideal or action.

On the last question, let us just say, in any case, this Cycling can prove to be quite healthy and normal and is often the way the greatest of universes and worlds were set and no less the way in which any good empiricism or science or fine art is conceived. The path of any is not straight but circuitous; each in its own time and timing and we must not look solely to pathological implications to things but rather, look to its twin aspects -- then, seek of balance.

That always depends on how important the topic itself is. Generally speaking, I may have had a few sleepness nights, thinking over a topic, and mulling over different scenarios and outcomes, without any succesful conclusions. This will reach the point where I fall into a dreamless asleep from sheer exhaustion, On waking up, I will have a diametrically different approach pop into my head, sometimes radically different from what I had been consciously comsidering as potential solutions.

Its hard to say exactly what an original thought is. I take it that we are not discussing a new way of cooking pot roast, or finding a new route to the grocery store. The truth is, that on most occassions, I will usually try to follow a linear, logical path of reasoning to reach a solution. Hardly leaves much leeway for true originality, even though the actual implementation of these thoughts may become more streamlined over time due to greater personal experience. Someone observing from the outside may actually think he is observing something original, although I may know differently, for the rerasons outlined above.

True originality is quite rare in fact, and the lucky individuals that can really think outside the box are the ones making headlines for their ideas, or gathering up all the Nobel prizes. If we are willing to accept that public acclam is the true mark of an original idea, I would say that originality is as common as hens teeth. The average person may never really have an original thought in his life.

This is a difficult question to answer because not all thought is conscious. I will try to answer in non-technical terms.

Some activities (for example, a dance or gymnastic routine) require repeating the same movements until the conscious thought pattern is impressed in the unconscious mind. This pattern is then called upon by the person by "zoning" It is repeated exactly.

This type of thought pattern is also possible for other behaviors, especially in obsessive trait individuals or individuals who experience emotional trauma (like a broken heart or those in mourning).

On the opposite end of the spectrum are creative individuals (musicians, poets, writers, painters, etc.) who avoid connecting to repeat thought patterns and instead do their best to directly express emotions and thoughts at their growing edge of consciousness. These tend to be be new ideas for the individual and one might call them "original."

Most of us are somewhere between. The very young are learning rapidly and have more new ideas (perhaps as much as several per minute). The very old tend to rethink concepts more than they learn or create new ones. Some people may not have an "original" thought even after several days.

The other item to consider is that some individuals have disciplined their minds to the point of being able to turn off the internal babble that is associated with thought. These humans can then allow unconscious thought to slowly enter their awareness and either reject (stop) or entertain (expand) the thought at will. Most people, however, have little mental discipline.

Well, I'm not quite sure how "original" my thoughts are, in the grand scheme of consciousness... but, I've had a plethora of "original to me" thoughts that always seem to push my boundaries open a bit more each time.

I guess what I tend to do is think in circles, adding twists and complexities here and there, until all of a sudden an original-to-me "a ha" thought jumps at me from the depths of consciousness. These experiences usually bring about a moment of silent reflection on everything that has led up to that very moment...

Then I rinse, wash, and repeat the cycle. Sooner or later I'll get nowhere, but i'll feel like I'm everywhere! The process, I have to say, is half the fun! *wink*

That is actually a form of obsession and compulsion. It is a real common feature among addicts or people who have addictive behavior. It is hard to control at times. I use to do this behavior often, but now I have learned different methods to control it

Both actually, thinking is what I do. hehe Thinking through every possibility and then rethinking. Trying to come up with new thoughts and new ways to do something.

There is a certain irony here.

There's no need for me to actually add anything because our beloved Orange Chameleon has already said it for me.
