What is meant by the expression " Tinker Mufti " popularly used in the Forces ?

    'Mufti' in the forces means civilian dress. 'Tinker mufti' presumably therefore means that someone's civilian clothes make him look like a 'tinker' - someone who made a living travelling around mending pots & kettles.
