To everyone who listens to nothing but hiphop...?

its time to step your music game up. diversify your musical taste, because these "rock" heads seem to know more about hiphop than most of you. set your mind free from this internal hiphop trap you made for youself. if you cant listen or appreciate other styles of music,its no wonder why people dont appreciate hiphop as a music style.what makes hiphop unique is that it deconstructs every style of music and makes it its own. since hiphop is made of every style of music- to trully appreciate music as a whole, youll have to be familiar with almost every style as well. if not, then you have a lazy and undeveloped ear for music- which inturn will get you no respect from any musical community, or to atleast to the people who matter.open your minds!

Personally, i love and do listen to everything -name it: all styles of the following: country(yes country!) punk, metal, reggae,jazz,merengue, salsa, flamenco, soul, funk, mariachi, samba/bossanova, most of electronice(really trying hard to apreciate trance)

THE TITLE! if u read that you would i know wasnt talking to you. but please know there ARE people out there, especially in this forum that is as 1-dimensional as those who pertain to the TITLE of this question....apology accepted

so basically what im sayin is: for whatever reason you decided to draw a line in the sand, choosing a side-( "rap is crap"-"rock is a crock") puts you and the people on the otherside on the same level. musically, if you dont venture outside hiphop, your knowledge and understanding will not progress. and when i say rock-heads, im talking about people who are deeply knowledgable of rock music, not these lames coming into hiphop room running their mouths. sorry bout the confusion. but if youd like to trade philosophies, id love to hear em. bonesiown@yahoo.com.

    sorry i am not one of ones you are speaking of

    i listen to hip hop, rock, country, classical, gospel, etc and all their forms and subgenres

    i have always listened to everything (i mean things like Cantor/Sacred music, Hawaiian, chants, audionoize, etc too)

    i am very open minded and not lazy

    i am still a beat junkie too!

    That is true, you need to appreciate the art that exist in hip hop (and doesn't exist on hip hop radio stations)

    If you listen to a beat, and you cant dissect every instrument, melody, bass note, harmonic, pitch, drum fill....then there are people out there who know music better than you (and those ppl tend to have better taste in music)

    I don't know where the hell you've been, but most of the people coming out with the 'rap is crap' mantra are so called rock fans. If they're so knowledgable on hip hop and appreciate it then why would they do that einstein?

    Dude what makes you think somneone who listen to hip-hop don't appreciate other genre. Is that why a lot of you are hating? Jealousy? Then let me tell, i do listen to other genre; Rock, Jazz, and even classsicals, as long as they're great. My favorite rockers are linkin park, nickelback, yellowcard, and sum41. Don't be jealous because you don't hear a lot of people appreciate the rock music. You're really pathetic.

    I agree with you! And alot of todays Artist and Fans don't know the difference between Shoutout's and Liner Notes either!

    Well put. I listen to almost every genre of music available. I don't listen to songs because they belong to any particular genre, I listen to them because I can connect with either the lyrics, the music or both on some level.
