How many windmills?

Could be built in southeastern California to tap into the Santa Ana winds? It seems like there is a ton of desert to work with.

Is it possible to build enough windmills and tap enough energy to reduce the impact of the winds on the populated coastal areas?

You could build windmills, but it would not be a very good idea. The Santa Ana winds are a seasonal phenomenon and only blow during the fall and winter. Even then they do not blow constantly. Wind farms are best build where there is consistent year-round wind.

    I agree with Doc E 100%.

The only thing I would add, to answer the second part of the question, is that windmills would convert only a very tiny fraction of the energy in a Santa Ana wind event and would not decrease the impact of the winds to any measurable degree.
