HELP AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2001 Chevy Impala starter quit working can I replace this myself or or not??

I own a shop, and I'm going to be as honest as I can with you. You should have it towed to a shop, and have them fix it. You are assuming the problem is the starter, and it may very well not be, so changing it only to find out it still won't start will only cost you more in the long run. The starter is located on the right side of the engine, at the back, and down at the bottom. You have to remove the battery cable to fix it, and you will loose your presets, have a problem with your anti-theft system, and it's just not a good idea to attempt this if you don't have the tools, and knowledge about it to do the job. Causing the car to burn to the ground is a reality. Do yourself a favor, and have it towed to a shop that is equipped to handle the job. The thing that scares me is the fact you state you don't know what you are doing!!! Injury to yourself, and/or the vehicle is a very real possibility.

Not a hard job...but not real easy either...

Let me try to 'splain...

Follow your positive battery cable and it will lead you right to it. It's underneath the car bolted to the engine block.

Your first problem is getting the car up in the air SAFELY so you can get under it...Ramps would be ideal, but since you can't start it...Ya gotta jack it up. SAFELY. Jackstands not concrete blocks to hold it.

#1.......DISCONNECT THE BATTERY !!!

#2.......There should be one big wire (coming from battery)

and 2 small wires..disconnect them and remember

where the small ones go so you put them on in

the same place on the new starter.

#3...... I think there are 3 bolts holding it to the motor

Remove them and the starter comes off.

#4........Put new starter on with the 3 bolts....attach

wires....connect battery and you is done!

Easy huh? good luck!

If you aren't sure what you are doing I suggest getting a pro to do it for you, changing a starter isn't always an easy job especially on a front wheel drive vehicle

you might try and find a local school that has an auto shop class, they might do it for just the cost of parts
