What Mistress Szandrah is quite true. Believe her. Nevertheless some conversion packages are better than others. I've used Image Magick since about 1991 when I was on DOS for most of my specifically computer graphics needs. These days I'm on Linux and I do most of my scanning with sane but beyond that it's gimp, inkscape, and Image Magick.

Open that image in Paintbrush, which find under accessories on the Start menu in All Programs. After you have opened Click File, then Save as... Under Save as type: Click JPEG and Click save. And you are done. Though some images can be distorted in graphic.

You can't retain full quality since GIF-files can use a maximum of 256 colors in them. It all depends on how many colors you have in the original, but if it's a photo it's way too many to convert properly.

open it up with microsoft paint or any other drawing program then click save as and save it as .gif. you should be able to select save as GIF on the save menu
