To echo what Abel wrote, the 60GB has the greatest compatibility. Be aware that Sony has stopped manufacturing the 60GB, so if you want one, you'd do well to buy it soon, before the stock depletes completely. As of today, Amazon still has them.

Not true. The majority of both the PS1 & PS2 games play on the PS3.But be careful , Sony is putting out a "value system" that is cheaper than the original and that doesn't play PS2 games. If you stick with the 60 or 80 GB systems you should be okay.

The 40GB PS3 doesn't play PS2 games, it only plays PS1 games. The 80GB plays about 85% of PS2 and PS1 games. The 60GB plays about 98% of PS2 and PS1 games. If you can, get the 60GB version. If you can't, get the 80GB. That way you're son won't have to throw out all the PS2 games he has. Good luck!

i'm positive the 60gb and 20gb versions will be able to play the ps2/ps1 games, but i think the new 80gb and 40gb will not be able to play them
