Is Prof. Watson's view on race correct?

Nope. There are some genetic differences between races on average, but it's a very ill-defined field (the concept of race is very ill-defined genetically as well), and there is absolutely no scientific basis to his statement.
I'd chalk it up to senility, but he's been an *** in the past too. Rosalind Franklin was instrumental in discovering the structure of DNA, but was never credited in Watson & Crick's work.
Check out the podcast "The Skeptic's Guide to the Universe" free on iTunes. Episode 117 has a good discussion about Watson's statement (plus, it's a great podcast).

No. His remarks appear to be off-the-cuff, and out of line.
This is probably from a private conversation, and not a press conference.
You should ignore this, just as you don't recall Jesse Jackson calling New York "Hymietown" or that Jimmy Carter once talked about maintaining the ethnic purity of neighborhoods.
