Why do Conservatives make Global Warming into a fully political issue?
Why are Conservatives making (man made) Global Warming into a full fledged political issue? Sure, if we are going to have a solution to Global Warming, it will involve politics to implement laws and such, but why do you make this into a "Liberal and a Democrat lie?" It is a serious environmental issue (that people on both sides accept) that will affect all of us unless we can reverse it now. Why do you deny it when the scientific community accepts if and even the White House accept it? This is an environmental issue that needs to be addressed. Why is it such a huge deal to address this issue? Does the future of our planet matter and how it affects us and future generations even matter to you or does only the political side matter?

Both sides have made this a political issue, not just one. One side 'demands' that we must accept global warming as being man made. The other side demands that it's not.
Regardless of whether it is or isn't, shouldn't even be the issue here but for some stupid reason, people can't see that. Who cares what caused this. Let's just all take care of the environment, regardless of reason.

Most politicians are conditioned to respond partisan-style to any issue. Some of this is just habit, some inclination, some political philosophy; a lot of it is simply exploiting a major issue to play to the 'swing' electorate. However, it is true that their respective financial contributors (and the various lobby specialists such powerhouses employ) will strive to dilute and divert any measures taken to tackle global warming or relieve environmental stress or protect the ecology which would adversely effect their commercial operations. Unfortunately, to truly address green issues with substantial action WILL harm the interests of big business and large industries. Moreover, the consumer economy the West has been reared on is unsustainable - so there is an inevitable tension, and that will be expressed politically. 'Realpolitik' will continue to dictate the agenda for some time to come - lots of denial, equivocation and 'greenspin' - but, ultimately, reality bites. It always does (as in Iraq). The smart ones (Sarkozy, for example) will stay ahead of the game, but I'd suggest many conservatives (worldwide, not just in the US) run a high risk of being marooned on the political equivalent of a New Orleans rooftop.

Republicans are slow to change. They are S-L-O-W. You have to accept this. They do things eventually but they really try to hold onto the past. So right now Republicans are stuggling with the issue of homosexuality. They are still unsure if it is something that people choose to do or are born with. It matters to them. They also are still fighting the cold war in their minds. Yeah, they will be the first to tell you Reagan won the cold war but the last to admit that it was actually won. Amazing.
So give them time. The grazing lands of the midwest will be drying up soon and a lot of the hardline Republicans out there will be forced to deal with a serious new issue. They organize then create a slogan like "The war on water" or something catchy. Then they'll try to get more tax dollars to help their farmers who did it to themselves.

people who are attacking al gore for this are insane and have buried their head in the sand
heres what i see as happening, the environmental scientists first introduced this idea in the late 80s into mainstream media and culture and the george bush and his corporate buddies made this an issue in 92,
remember the "spotted owl" crap, they reduced it to a hippie movement,
---
www.epa.gov has lots to say about mercury pollution and forgetting al gore and global warming the reality is in a post industrial revolution factories are emitting harmful chemicals that are a danger to the human race
now im not a socialist and im not for shutting down the factories, just for looking at how those factories are being operated and is there a way to do what those factories do with out the pollution that they are all kicking into the environment
is that so ridiculous to ask for
can i get people who are "conservative" to acknowledge that the epa under a conservative republican president talks about mercury pollution and its harm to the human being
all we get is the same crap rhetoric about al gore takes a private jet
i'll but a hybrid car, gas is 3 bucks a gallon so i want to save a few dollars
thats "conservative"

Did you hear Jammie Leigh yesterday on the news claim her
opinion of the Ca. fires was due to global warming! About
five minutes before I heard on a different channel, arson was
suspect, and as disgusting as that is, today on the news they are sure it was arson. Scientists have differ views on global
warming not all agree, I think Al Gore is over rated, books
make money and keep you in the lime light. Of which he desires both. Certainly we should all be more aware to care for our enviornment, As for politics they make everything
a political issue be they Dems or Reps. They each have their own proaganda, I trust none of them, surely that has been proved by their actions by now.

The conservatives are afraid of the liberal solutions to global warming. They think that a carbon tax will hurt American businesses, and they are probably correct. If the libs would offer practical solutions that won't affect the economy or discommode Americans too much, the Repubs might agree with them.
Ideas to decrease our dependency on foreign sources of energy should be proposed and debated. We could reach a compromise if both parties really wanted to. Increased drilling for oil for the Repubs, more nuclear power, and conservation measures for the libs would make an excellent energy bill.

Why is global warming an issue at all? Sure the media states that a majority of scientist accept global warming. However many of the scientists included on the IPCC report felt they had be lied to about the purpose or scope of the report, and some were included even after they refused to work on a project. It is becomming a left vs. right issue because the left wants to hamstring all human devolpment and return to a time of simple living. The right seeks to improve our lives through technology. I recently read an article where a group of left wing people pleaded with the goverment to stop nuclear power. The only reason is the left has latched on to global warming is to further their agenda to destroy civilization.

You've got it all wrong, honey. it is the LEFT who has exploited this issue for political gain. Their objective is a massive energy tax on America that would cripple the poor and middle class.Mr. Gore and Mr. Edwards have preached to you from high above their lofty grandeur on how YOU should conserve energy, all the while they fly around in pollution-belching jets and live in 30,000 square foot mansions.
I am a conservative and I fully support doing one's part to care for the environment...and I don't need some hypocrite elitist politician telling me what I should and should not do.

I'm not sure I fully understand your question, but if you're talking about political parties addressing an issue, of course they're going to make it about politics... that's what they do.
"Open Thoughts", how do you know that "liberals" are the worst polluters? Where do you come up with this stuff?

The last I checked it was Al Gore that was making global warming a political issue. Also, the last time I checked he was a left wing, leer jet, hypocritical, nut of a Liberal.
