I read it when i was his age in the book. i was going through a lot of bad things in life, growing up without a father, a semi-crazy mother and having no one to talk to. It slammed me to the ground. some things were so similar to my life that i would have nightmares about it. i couldn't stop reading it. i wanted to be his friend and i wanted to save him from his mother. And i wanted to buy him a happy meal because his mother wouldn't let him have a hamburger. It's one of the most horrifying child stories i've ever heard, and to this day i have nightmares about what happened to him, like they were happening to me...

This is my favorite book. I read it in one day, since it was so difficult to put down. I then went and got the second part the next day. It is a very well written book, and you will truly feel for the author and the horrible events he endeavored.

I read it and I loved it. I thought it was very well written. Can't believe that a child could go through that much turmiol and abuse from his own parent. He has more books out to that are equally as good

It was one of the saddest books I've ever read. How could any child go through such terrible abuse. One of my children also read the book and after reading it gave me a big hug and kiss.

I loved it, but it ripped me to pieces. I wanted to go back in time to rescue him. What amazed me was how much spirit Dave had. It many similar situations the child is (wrongly,of course) made to feel like he deserves the abuse, but Dave knew that what his mother was doing was wrong, and he never let his hate consume him, he overcame it. It was just awe-inspiring. I don't understand why his father never stood up for him, or why teachers never intervened. It was so obvious what was going on.

It was so very sad to see what this boys mother was doing to him. If you liked it, then you will love the sequel: The Lost Boy

It literally ripped my heart into pieces. It makes me that much more greatful with my relationship with my parents and the kind of treatment they have shown me. I hope no one will ever go through what Dave went through.

It was so sad. I felt sorry for Dave, when I heard that it was a real story. I really hate his mom, she was so mean. How could you do that to your own child!!??
