Does this gay marriage proposal have a name?
In the debate over gay marriage, I sometimes hear the following proposal made. Does this idea have a "name" or some shorter way of referring to it?
The idea is that the government should not be in the business of sanctioning marriages at all. Instead, it should only provide civil unions to any consenting adults that wish to form such a union. "Marriage" would be a completely religious institution and it would be up to each church to decide whether or not they would solemnize marriages for homosexual couples.

I don't know the name of the proposal
but, my opinion as to your other comments, just for fun.
marriage is just a word which means, 2 or more comming together. It is not a religious anything. It's where the word "Merinade" (SP) is from in cooking.... All it means is 2 seperates, comming together as a unit. It's a word, not a religious anything.
Just like "Communion" sure, it's a religious sacriment, but, it too, is a word which has to do with "common union"... comming together for a similar cause...
At any rate... The federal government should be involved in marriage. You get federal protection (of that right), or should... you file federal taxes together... So on and so forth. Marriage has many federal implications.
Now, since one needs a license to get married, they leave a lot of it up the states to decide, since it's a state license.
Of course, they did step in, in the year 1967 to ban laws against interracial marriage. Can you believe that? up untill 1967 there were still states that didn't allow interracial relationships?
Anyway, just my opinion.

I don't know about a "name" for it either... but i've been saying this for a long time... since most marriages happen outside of the church, for non religious reasons... I'm all for letting the majority take over "civil union"... and let the church keep their word....

I believe the guy that mentioned, "simply by fact till then, we gained't easily say "with liberty and justice for all." the entire purpose of the united states is to guard (help/Serve) the yankee human beings, so as that they have a "widespread" life have been every person is equivalent (As mentioned interior the form and diverse different records), yet till gay Marriage (in the different 40 8 States) Is widespread.. We Cant (As mentioned from the initiating of my "answer", "With Liberty And JUSTICE For ALL" (And lots extra).
