I think my daughter has a swayback?
My daughter is 9 going on 10 and she seems to have an unusual inward curve in her lower back. It makes her belly stick out farther than normal. Her lower back always looks like a "C" as if she were arching it.
I know little kids usually have that curve until they get older, but it is usually gone well before age 9! Anyone have any info on this? Should I make a special appt with her doctor or wait until her next physical?
It doesn't seem to bother her but if it's something that needs to be corrected, I don't want to wait too long. Thanks!
Thanks! I have a call in to my pediatrician. Waiting for her call bvack. : )

My sister had this...doctors said she'd likely have to have surgery...so my parents went to a chiropractor first, before exploring surgical options...it worked like a charm, she's got a perfect posture...doctors were very pleased with the result.

HI! it looks like a "C" huh? i know if it looks like an "S" its scoliosis..however there are a few different things...i had 3 of them...but i get them all confused. Anyways...they started to get kinda concerned about my curvature around 9ish. I ended up having a back brace i believe for like a yearish...however other medical problems made that not so useful for me...oh yea i wasn't very compliant either. I ended up in surgery when i was 11. I now have rods in my back to fuse my back . However, that is extreme...i don't think its very common with the average child...perhaps a brace but nothing more. They are uncomfortable and she may not cooperate...just be ready for a fight!

It may be scoliosis, you should have it checked out by her pediatricin. Depending on the severity of it it may be a problem later down the road. My sister who is 23 was diagnosed when she was younger and has had 1 surgery so far and is going in for another one soon to correct the curve.

Call your doctor's office and see if you can talk to the doctor or leave a note so that your doctor can call you back when it is convienient. Express your concerns and ask if the matter can wait or if you should bring her in sooner.
Good luck to you.
