Is the world ending in 2012?

If Nostradamus is right about the world ending in 2012, then why do his predictions go all the way to the 3700's?

Update:

My question about Nostradamus predicting the world to end in 2012 comes from the Discovery channel's documentary over a book of watercolor drawings which supposedly was produced by Nostradamus. Experts say that the book predicts the world to end in 2012. BUT, there are admittedly many drawings missing from the book.

No, I wasn't aware that Nostradamus predicted this date.

As far as I know, this date comes from the Mayan calendar, which many believe says that the end of time is 2012.

This is an incorrect interpretation of the Mayan perception of time.

It is the end of an age in 2012. The Mayans had a 52 year cycle, much like we have a 100 year cycle. The date of 2012 is the end of one age, and the beginning of another. Just as 2000 was the end of one "age" for us, and 2001 ushered in another, albeit not necessarily better age.

Well, you see, Old Nostradamus got hooked on the prediction thing and well let's just say he got a little carried away and went ahead and predicted the end of the world.

That's one prediction that really made people take note of who he was. However, only after he did that did he realize that nobody would really care about his predictions after that and he would lose his appeal and popularity.

So I guess he just kept on predicting and predicting and predicting (just in case the end of the world thing was wrong) and to keep the job he was used to doing. But you were smart enough to catch old Nostradamus predicting a little bit too much. hehehe! :O

I hate to recycle one of my answers, but I answered this question yesterday. Rather than writing a new response I'll just paste it:

If anyone actually thought this was going to happen wouldn't you see some signs of it, outside of your middle school? Wouldn't there be some sort of countdown on the news shows? Wouldn't you see all sorts of articles in Time and Newsweek and Popular Science. Surely the end of the world would make the news. Is it possible the middle school students know the facts and no one else does? Why aren't the markets reacting? Wouldn't Leno or Letterman mention the fact?

Here's a guess: You believed some sensationalist TV show that made absurd claims without the least bit of proof, relying solely on the prophecies of some Indians who couldn't even invent the wheel,

Then you continued to believe it even though no other evidence suggested itself, even though such an event would surely make the news.

Of course I vaguely remember some idiotic rumor from my youth about the Beatles being somehow transported to some magical place called Pepperland. Actually it was only teenage girls that believed this nonsense. If there was one male who actually believed in Pepperland I would love to hear from you. I'll only laugh at you a little. I promise.

Nostradamus was kinda nutty.... And, no, the world isn't going to end in 2012.

    The mayans predicted 2012.

I think they just ended the calender there.

Nothing is gonna happen, just another day on December 13th, 2012.

I don't know why we're taking this 2012 thing so seriously, the mayans didn't know what we know today. What makes their level of intelligence significant when it's clearly not.

They knew nothing about geology, physics, quantum physics, chemistry, biology... nothing.

    2012? Nah.

Lord, I hope so. I think it's the only way I'll ever get out of my student loans! Not to mention that humans have become a parasitic presence on this planet, sucking up all her life, destroying habitats and species, and giving nothing back. If I was Mother Nature, I would have wiped us all out a long time ago...

personally i dont believe it will. many of his predictions have bothcame true and havent come true. so you really cant go by it. but unless we have a major nucleor holocaust then i highly doubt that the world will end in 2012. hell the world can end in the next second so really that theory is irrelivent. cool question tho.

Intersting, I heard this too....as well as from several different sources. I also heard it is to be caused by space radiation, so the 'earth' won't necessisarily die? And maybe everyone on earth won't, either? Perhaps it will just be the end of the world as we KNOW it...

Clearly you have not read Nostradamus quatraines yourself. He never gives dates other people have assigned those. Buy any cheap book on Nostradamus - you'll soon get bored. Its all so vague you could find several intepretations for each "prophecy".
