If the system requirements call for 2ghz speed, is a 1.8ghz core duo sufficient?

Quickbooks system requirements call for minimum 2.0 Ghz. Salesman told me that with dual core processors, you can just double the stated clock speed...ie if the chip is advertised at 1.6 Ghz dual core, that's equivalent to 3.2 Ghz and meets Quickbooks requirement. Is this true!?

Thanks.

Ok there has been a lot of guesswork on here and some good info. The core duo is Intel's best chip for years. Clock speed is no longer truly indicative of true performance but you want a straight answer right? the Core duo will handle Quickbooks without breaking sweat. The main problem regardin speed would be your RAM and if you have a gig or more then it will fly. No worries.

Sure & he also has a nice bridge to sell you.

That is not necessarily true. Dual core only becomes truly faster when it is in a system using programs that are both optimized for multiprocessing.

What that means is that essentially a dual core system will take turns doing tasks so more can be done at once which means you can run resource intensive programs like games or run multiple applications at the same time without bogging down your system as much.

So having a dual core system will not give you 3.2g of speed when the individual processors are 1.8g each. It will however use each 1.8g processor to handle either multiple programs at once or use the processors to handle multiple processes going on within a single process intensive program.

I would suggest you let him send you the trial disk so you can see for yourself how it works on your system. If it doesn't work well you aren't out anything & you can probably request a down level version that isn't as resource intensive + probably get a % off the price for doing so.

I'm not sure what version of quickbooks you are looking at. it seems that the 07/08 pro versions only need 1g recommended.

Below are some links to help you understand dual core's more.

Yeah it'll work just fine. And your salesman is full of crap with regard to the clock speed. Dual processing does not double the clock speed, but it can in most cases cut the processing time in half, depending upon the application.

Most likely not, most of the time system requirements are listed as the minimum requirements for software or hardware to function properly.

Simple answer, no. The guy was just trying to make a sale. If that's true then my comp should be equivalent to 4.4Ghz LOL!!

    It's not.

Still the difference is so small the software should do fine.

With dual core the computer is approx 50% faster ! So yes it should run what you want it to run !!
