what is your opinion about the katalispeis at schools nowadays?

i think that most of the children just want to skip some lessons and thats all pretty much...

but i think that it is wrong that it has gotten such big publicity because that makes children to continue.

What is your opinion?

Hardly a year goes by without a katalipsi of some sort nowadays. It's become a trend. I'm totally against it. Being a teacher myself, I talk with my students about it, trying to find out their demands. Some of them include:

    1) the so much talked about article 16. When I ask them what it is about and why they are against it, all I get is silence or some general remarks.

    2) they want to have the walls painted and the floor mopped!!! When I ask them who destroyed the walls and who wrote "A + K=LFE" on the wall or who ate candy and croissants and threw the wraps on the floor, I get silence once again.

    3) They want mirrors in the toilet!!!-yes, I understand girls can't come to school without make-up!

    4) They want books and teachers-that would be a very good reason if they really meant it, but knowing my students better than myself, I have my doubts about the validity of this demand.

    The list is endless....

I really understand those of my students who admit that they just want a break! They are the ones telling the truth and the ones who really know what they are doing and what they are doing it for!

And yes, I agree with you... It shouldn't have gotten so much publicity. Some teachers and all the media handled the whole situation the wrong way, supporting the so called "struggles" of the students.

What I try to tell my students is that there may be a time when they will have really serious demands, but then there will be nobody to take them seriously, and that they themselves create the conditions for others to call them "lazy, indifferent, irresponsible, immature, etc"

I quite agree with you. Friends of mine who are high school teachers have described this situation as a "fake May 68" one. And I think publicity makes more students want to imitate the ones who take such initiatives.

It has become fashionable the seizure of high schools by students just before the Christmas period. Most of the times, their demands are not justifiable, yet the system allows it because that way it saves money, in the pretext of democracy

We have katalipsi at my school and noone knows why! Katalipseis have never had any results...why would they have now? I would say that they work the exact opposite way, teachers will revenge us with a bunch of tests as soon as we go back!!! I hate it...I don't know what your oppinion is but I hate it!!!
