does it ever annoy you....?

ok, so i was just reading a story in the news about a man who is being charged with first degree murder for killing his wife, and the defense said that his mental illness made his incapable of killing his wife.

does it ever annoy you when you read about these things about people murdering others and not getting the sentence they should because of "mental illness". mental illness or not, they should still get the same penatly as everyone else, THEY KILLED SOMEONE!!!

i know this is completely pointless, but just had to rant and rave for a minute. it just annoys me

Update:

EDIT-

imagine-what the hell does that have to do with what i said??

Yes I totally agree... I don't care what kind of mental state a person is in - first of all if they were really in such a f-ed up mental state that they were driven to KILL a person they should have been in an institution, not running free in the first place... can you see where I'm going with this??? It doesn't matter what the circumstances are - unless it was for self defense, they should be spending the rest of their lives in jail... or get the death sentence and get rid of them quicker!

To play "Devils Advocate" I wondered what your view is of the "Battered Woman" syndrome? A woman subjected to physical abuse and controlled by the fear of more physical abuse?

I recommend you see the movies "The Burning Bed" and "Sleeping With the Enemy" and "Enough" before stating that "mental illness or not, they should still get the same penalty as everyone else, THEY KILLED SOMEONE!!!"

    EDIT

If you abolish Mental Illness and Temporary Insanity as a defense that would include the Battered Woman Syndrome as a defense. Therefore "mental illness or not, they should still get the same penalty as everyone else?"

I disagree and feel that the defense can present what ever arguments they want. It is the Judge and Jury that make the decision if it is a VALID defense. Research Post Traumatic Stress while your at it-it can cause permanent mental impairment if not treated.

That's incredibly true they should go to jail especially if found guilty and just because they have mental illness doesnt mean they killed the person any differently then they would have if the person didnt have the illness!

I agree 100% totally! They still murdered someone and they know right from wrong. I am a strong supporter of the death penalty as well. That man should get the death sentence for what he did.

I agree with you. People like to use "mental illness" to get off. Anyone can act crazy!

I agree, sometimes the so-called mental illness is made up.

Angela Yates comes to mind. She murdered her five children and they say that it's not really her fault because she had post-partem depression. She deserves the death penalty!

This happens ALL the time. 770-780 people a DAY have near DEATH experiences.

    I know me too!

That just gives them freedom to do it again.

Who knows what will happen next time.

They should at least lock them in an institute or something.
