How much does it cost to live in Montreal?

I'm from Ecuador, and I may go to Montreal to study next year. Which are the minimum costs of living in Montreal? Any tips for saving money?

Put the costs in U.S. if you can, since that is the currency here in Ecuador.

    I am sorry, but with the way the American dollar is collapsing and the Canadian dollar is getting stronger (appreciating against the US dollar by almost 20% in just the past 2 months!) any US dollar figure quoted may well be void by the time you arrive here.

    Canadian Immigration advises that a foreign student with a student visa, if not housed in a university dormitory should budget at least $ 10,000 per year.

    At today's exchange rate $ 10,000CDN is about $10,900US.

    well, the prices vary.

    but living in montreal is a lot less expensive (on average) than the other big cities in canada.

    one bedroom apartment in downtown is about CAN$600 to 2,000 a month.
