Do radar detectors detect all police cars?

First off, as soon as they some out with a new detector they come out with harder to detect radar and vice versa, so no, not all radar detectors detect all radar in all states. You can ask my truck driver friend about that. He uses one but still got pulled in Arkansas and it never went off. Also they are set off, as someone else said, by many non radar items such as automatic doors at stores, so can cause many false alarms. All in all it is still best to watch yourself and use the detector as insurance. Also, again as was pointed out, they do not detect the cars themselves, just the radar. There is no way to detect cop cars.

As it has been said, the term "radar detector" is pretty self explanatory. It detects radar.
It doesn't detect any police cars, or any type of vehicle for that matter. Think of a smoke detector. It detects the smoke, not the fire that it is coming from.
As far as do they work? Yeah they might work, but it only takes a few seconds for the radar to determine your speed. Too late for you to do anything about it. The only good they are is that they might tell you if a car ahead of you has been checked by radar giving you notice to slow down.

Radar detectors detect radiation of specific frequencies, maybe radio signals (radar), maybe light (laser). Think of them as walkmans or geiger counters.
That's all they do. They don't "see" cars, or motorcycles, or airplanes.
But they also pick up certain radio repeater towers and automatic grocery store door openers. This is why when you are going over a hill at, say 3:00 Sunday afternoon and there is nobody else on the road, the thing goes off like gangbusters.

the radar detector will detect radar only when it's transmitting. SO, if you're by yourself (no other vehicles around) and the radar is turned on when the ? is close your detector will give you a very slight warning that you just got a ticket.

Yes. Radar detectors detect any object that is moving. All the myths about stuff that throws them off is false due to the very nature in which they operate.

Nope, just the ones using radar, and sometimes not even them til it's too late.

If you are speeding, you deserve to be detected.
