Can miss matched tires cause bad vibration in my steering wheel?

I have an 03 Eclipse, recently got a tire replaced but it is not the same tread as the others, now my steering wheel vibrates at highway speeds. Could the miss matched tires alone be causing the vibration? What other things can cause it to vibrate?

Get the wheel balanced again at the shop, and get them to make sure the rim aint bent. (that could cause vibration) Also Cheapo tyres may be out-of-round. watch the tyre on the balancing machine and see if the tyre is perfectly round or seems to be "wobbling" or if the tread surface is going up and down. That would cause a problem too. Then check the overall outside diameter. Your front two tyres must be exactly the same as each other, or you car will have a nasty weave and bad steering on the highway. The type of tread by itself will not be an issue, however any difference in diameter between the front to tyres will cause a problem. Put the odball one on the back.

Was the vibration there before, also you only replace one front tire ?????

When a wheel and tire are mounted together they are seldom joined at the one ideal spot. Each of these units, though it may be built to specification, frequently adds to the slight error of the other and together they can generate a vibration you can feel.

As they spin together, the tire and wheel are exerting forces simultaneously in different directions. Thanks to advancing technology, a system has been developed to measure all these forces and calculate how this particular wheel/tire pairing should be matched in order to ride as a perfectly smooth unit.

Importantly, the source of disturbance is something that cannot be sensed during wheel balancing. It is an entirely different problem that necessitates Ride Matching. This process takes a skilled operator approximately twenty minutes to perform on a set of tires and wheels for a vehicle. The result, however, improves ride quality, performance and wear (remember that a smooth riding tire lasts longer).

Mismatched tires will never cause a vibration. Uneven wear, an improperly mounted tire or an out of balance tire are the typical causes of vibration at highway speed.

a bent rim will also cause this to happen usually a tire wont cause that ,even if the tread is a little different on it that still shouldn't make it shake like that, its also possible that all the tires need re-balancing on it,that will make it do the same thing, have it checked to be sure, its possible the tire they put on it may not be in perfect balance, good luck with it.

I to have an 03 Eclipse with a wobble at 50-52 mph. I ve had the tires balanced 4 times and it does help but the wobble is still there but not all the time. I have two different rated tires and I m guessing that s the problem or something is wrong with the car.

yes, small things can make a big different. but you can also check to see if the lugs are tight. wheels are balanced , and rims are straight. also check front end alignment.

i could be but if it was me i would have the tires balaced and have the rims checked to see if they are bent
