My doctor says REM sleeping isn't good most of the time because your brain is still too active, but how do I get better sleep without taking the prescription drugs?

Update:

if you rem sleep all the time your not fully restoring yourself and you can sleep 12 hours and not feel rested...my sleep is not realxing because i dream constantly and i dont feel refreshed.

hi, you need to concentrate on the flow of breath in a relaxed manner, very relaxed manner. feel as light as possible by visualizing that even the slightest breeze could make you float. thoughs are more powerful than deeds. keep doing this exercise on and off whenever you find time. however, allocate sometime daily to disconnect your phones,tv etc., create a

soothing peaceful enviornment and do this exercise and you will certainly see steady progress. no douby at all

I'm in a very similar situation as you, so I know how hard it is to stop. I don't know if anyone can completely recover from an addiction like this one. I've been a cutter for two and a half years, and even though i can go for several months without hurting myself somehow i find i always come back to it. what you might want to try is counting to a hundred every time you feel like cutting, or maybe starting a journal. what i did was write a book about my life and about the things that have happened to me that make up who i am. after i had finished and read it over, i was able to identify a lot about why i was doing this to myself, and as a result i knew the right thing to do was to see a doctor. right away on my first visit i became diagnosed with bipolar II. so you see, even though a lot of the time it can be hard to do things like fall out of love or stop self harm, the only real thing that can be any help is to replace one addiction or habit with a different much more productive one. if you're an artistic person than try to paint a picture of your life, or write a book, make a silent film that represents who you are. to help yourself recover you'll need to look deeply inside your soul. and feel things you might not be familiar with. but it's okay, because there's hope for everyone, recovery is right in front of you. hope this helps :) stay strong XOXO btw, i'm 15 so i really do know how you feel. not like a 30 year old might, but through the eyes of a teenager.

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

    1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

    2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net/

    Ohhh..and Good Luck!

REM sleep stands for Rapid Eye movement, this stage of sleep is normal throughout the states of sleep. You are probably entering this stage of sleep before average. To help relax your brain and enter this stage normally i recommend taking a hot bath right before you head to bed. Another thing you should keep away from food or drinks for 1 hour before heading to bed. More information on REM sleep is linked below.

You need REM sleep. Without REM sleep your brain doesn't get a chance to really "re-charge" itself. I'd change doctors because I think he is an idiot.

Your doctor is either a complete idiot or not a real doctor .In the absence of REM sleep maintaining positive mental health is almost impossible
