Mika's "Big Girl" song... Is it celebrating or offending "big girls?"?
Seriously... When I first heard the song I thought, "How nice! A song promoting the beauty of BBWs!"
But then once you start to listen to the lyrics, it's kinda like, "WTF? He's calling us beautiful while calling us balloons and saying we stuff our faces with pizza?" And even the video makes me think it's not really a positive song. He's walking down the street surrounded by overweight women, and the people are watching them with shocked looks on their faces.
Now I'm not so sure about the songs true intentions.
What is your opinion?

I think it wasn't meant to be offensive. I think it is positive. My reasoning might be naive sounding but I think this because it's Mika....all the interviews i have seen or read are always trying to get him to admit he is gay and he is always answers in ways stating why does it matter if you like me you like me SO i think he made the song from the angle of knowing what its like to be scrutinized for something that really shouldnt be a big deal...also (again sounding naive) he is really good friends with beth ditto a total big girl who is very comfortable and proud of herself (in fact when i first heard this song i totally thought it was song about his friendship with her) ...somehow i don't see Mika trying to go out and make a song to add to the mean outlook of "big girls"
here is a link to beth ditto and him together singing

Mika's definitely not trying to be offensive at all. One of the reasons he wrote it was because his mother is a big woman. He basically is just trying to say everyone is beautiful no matter what the size. If you saw how lustfully he dances with his Big Girls on stage, you'll realize it's not offensive at all. :)
