I am going hiking for 5 days, i need to carry all food and supplies, what size back pack should i buy (litres)

There are 4 of us going so we will be sharing the tent, cooking equipment and food.

    6000 cubic inches is always a good place start.

    I know that I'm going to get a lot of flak for that answer but look at it realistically;

    You use the under 4000 cu in pack that everybody else will probably suggest and then you procede to secure 2000 cubic inches of gear to the outside of it.You still require 6000 cubes for your gear it's just that with a larger pack everything is internal which means that it stays drier and so on.
