Others might consider the File System to be a second part of the OS since many operating systems let you select which one to use.

Others will tell you that there are more than two, or even only one major component.

As I said, it all depends on why you want to know or how you intend to apply the information. How granular (or detailed) do you want to be?

Easiest way is to buy an "external USB hard drive enclosure". Make sure you get one for IDE / ATA / PATA (all names for the same thing). You fit the old drive inside the box, and then connect the USB cable to your new computer. It will then act like an external hard drive and will get its own drive letter - allowing you to browse the contents and use for extra storage if you want.

As for Unix Its Kernel and Shell

Well, really, there is just the kernel. Everything after that is kinda an addon.
