How come when you go to rehab, listen and learn and apply what you learned, you still can't get a break?

There are many businesses whose policy is to not hire felons so even if you are doing great and have been put back on God's path and overcome temptation, your friend's bad influence, and such, there is no chance for you to even begin working and prove yourself as sober and great. Where can someone who has proven themselves to be smarter now get a start?

Update:

I wasn't speaking about my situation. I was lucky and am now office manager at a business and will soon go back into teaching but I am speaking for the many sisters who will soon enter the free world again and NOT be given a chance at their interview.

Because, as that worn out saying goes, "LIFE ISN'T FAIR!!"

Listen, I'm impressed that you did the things that you were asked to do to get on the straight and narrow. But that doesn't mean that you automatically get that new start in life. Someone out there has to take a chance on you. Potential employers regard you as a risk or "damaged goods". And there sweet **** all you do about that. You can't force an employer to hire you.

Now there is some good news for you and that is, sooner or later, someone will give you a break. First, employers don't necessarily get informed about your past. There are also other ways to develop a new, clean employment record: volunteer work. Also, network with friends and associates about someone who's hiring.

Hang in there because sooner or later someone will give you a chance.

    Best,

People for the very most part, unless they are open to empathy, compassion, placing themselves in another's shoes

will look at situations, especially ones concerning felons, those who have drug records, etc, into a box of judgment. For they'll fear that the behaviour of the person with a record, should she/he be hired may again fall back into being in trouble, thus jeopardizing their greater interests, which happen to be their businesses and personal welfare.

    Thus, they take no chances!
