You may hold both visas, simultaneously, so your best approach is to simply apply for an F-1 student visa. If everything else is in order, your B1/B2 tourist visa will not be at risk, regardless of whether the student visa is issued, and the fact that you already have the tourist visa will probably be a positive factor in the decision for the student visa.
EDIT: Length of visa validity is based on international reciprocity. For example, the US grants visas to citizens of India with a maximum of ten years validity, while citizens of Saudi Arabia are granted visas with a maximum of 2 years validity.

bypass to the U. S. Embassy and clarify your subject. they'd provide you a vacationer visa stamp that might actually assist you out on account which you do have the aircraft fee tag to return living house. I say deliver your id (alien reg. card, passport) and your flight itinerary and merely bypass down there to make certain what could be carried out. you may bypass to Korea and get the extension that way, even though it ought to alter right into a hassle.
