Is Flash Player 9 with active x safe to download? Real Player had a problem with older versions and viruses?

Is It safe to down load flash player 9, and active x ?

    Real player has a new updated version said to activate immediately. Not sure about Flash player 9 with active x...

    I wish I wouldn't have downloaded it because now my IE keeps encountering problems and closing .
