Hey, the other suggestions for anti-virus and anti-spyware are good so far. If you're really cautious have browser security too. Sandbox programs are increasingly popular. These act like a stunt double for your browser, so any phishing, keylogging, spyware, sketchy downloads, etc. affect the sandbox, not your actual computer. Keep the programs on the computer and use them often.

The programs below are for spywares- use all 3 and remove all they find. These you will use one at a time.

When one finishes - remove what is found and close it. Then open another one and begin a new scan...until you have scanned with all scanners...removing all found items.

They are needed, but, only they only run when you start them.

No matter which antivirus program you decide to keep on your machine, it's crucial to keep it current with the latest updates (usually called definition files) that help the tool identify and remove the latest threats.

In addition, not all antivirus tools are the same; if you find that the one you use isn't working to your satisfaction, you should do some research and try an alternative.
