what is the tv strike about?

i know the effects like cancelled shows, re runs and blah blah. you can go on.

but i wanna know the aim and purpose of the strikes by the writers or producers or whoever is it.

is it due to low pay (i highly doubt it) or not enough credits?

The strike began Monday after last-minute negotiations between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers failed to produce a deal on how much writers are paid when shows are offered on the Internet.

Money and rights. Despite what the media is telling you (because most of the media is owned by the same corporations as the studios after all) the writers are not all rich and greedy. Some are rich, but most are middle class. They might get a big check every now and then, but that check might need to stretch out over 5 years, as work can be scarce. It is not a steady cashflow, most entertainment jobs are really freelance. They need their union to guarantee their pensions and heath care just like teachers do.

The writers want to be paid royalties on their creative work, just as print authors and musicians get on their work. The Producers don't want to pay (they have been in the past) to reuse their work. It's basically like stealing. The WGA should just sue them for theft. It's the same concept as itunes - when you buy a song, part f the $ goes to the songwriter. The producers want to keep all of the $ from the sale and pay the writers nothing. So the people who actually created the show would get nothing. The producers want to do the same to the actors, which is why the actors union is marching with the writers on the picketlines. The producers are the greedy ones in reality, but they blame everyone else.

The producers are trying to break the union. They have created this whole situation and are blaming the people they are trying to rip off. The producers don't write my favourite shows, they are the ones that are replaceable. Check out this video on youtube that explains the writers side it's under wgaamerica and it's called why we fight.

The writers guild is striking because the production companies don't pay writers any money for shows that are downloaded or served over the internet, and they want a slight raise for shows that are purchased on DVD. Right now, the actors and producers get paid for downloaded and streaming content, while the writers don't. They get paid for writing an episode, and royalties from reruns and syndication, but that's about it.

because the writers aren't getting paid enough and they don't get paid for the movies that are downloaded from the internet
